BUGS Member Spotlight: Zhixiang’s LEGO NINJAGO 70594 Reimagined: A Custom Lighthouse Battle
This impressive custom LEGO NINJAGO creation takes the 70594 The Lighthouse Siege and transforms it into a much more dramatic battle diorama.
The builder has expanded the scene around the lighthouse, creating a larger environment that gives the model a stronger sense of scale and storytelling. Rather than simply displaying the building, the customisation turns it into an active battlefield filled with characters, action and detail.
Building the Environment
One of the most noticeable additions is the expanded landscape. Blue plates form the surrounding water, while large areas of tan bricks create a sandy shoreline around the lighthouse.
A grey stone pathway leads from the front of the display towards the building, providing a natural route into the scene. The combination of blue, tan and grey also creates a strong contrast with the lighthouse’s red, white and dark-brown colour scheme.
Bringing the Battle to Life
The positioning of the minifigures is one of the strongest aspects of the creation.
Instead of having the characters simply standing around the model, they have been carefully positioned as though they are actively fighting their way towards the lighthouse.
One character is suspended in mid-air using transparent LEGO elements, creating the impression of flight or a dramatic jump. This simple technique adds considerable movement to an otherwise static display.
The large character positioned in the foreground also helps establish a sense of depth, making the battle appear much larger than the physical footprint of the model.
Clever Use of Existing Elements
The builder has done a good job of retaining the distinctive architectural features of the lighthouse while adding their own details around it.
The layered construction, angled supports and mixture of textures give the building a substantial and imposing appearance. The additional ground details help connect the different sections together rather than making the additions feel like separate pieces.
The use of different plate heights and colours also gives the terrain some natural variation, avoiding a completely flat base.
Creating a Story
Perhaps the most successful part of this custom creation is the storytelling.
The figures, pathway, water and lighthouse all work together to create the feeling of a scene captured in the middle of a NINJAGO battle. The suspended minifigure and foreground characters immediately draw attention and encourage the viewer to imagine what is happening next.
It demonstrates how relatively simple modifications can make a LEGO display much more dynamic.
“This MOD depicts the third act of the episode the last resort from the 62th episode of Ninjago masters of spinjitzu and one of my favourite episodes of the series because of the action and the relationship between Jay and Nya before the big finale of the season as they were the last ones standing against nadakhan the djinn and his sky pirates.
The whole process wasn’t a very linear one , as i had the idea in my head after getting a second lighthouse from BUGS member NAT and he suggested to me about combining/upgrading the og set which is a very average set to me .
The MOD wasn’t planned out , i went with the flow while following the instructions of the original set added my ideas to the set along the way
what i did was to the lighthouse was adding another floor and stairs to make it more closer to the show and adding a blueplate to depict the sea .
This MOD is a mix of the original set and some aspects of the show’s model of the lighthouse , i also added dr julien ( zane’s father) in the basement making echo zane .
a steampunk version of Zane the ice ninja .
Overall , i’m proud of this MOD but its also a good starting point for me as i don’t do MOCs or MODs before as this is my first .
I can’t wait to start doing MOCs of the ninjago show depicting my favourite scenes.”
