LEGO Super Mario Gets a Major Makeover for 2027 with Eight New Sets
LEGO and Nintendo are taking LEGO Super Mario in a bold new direction for 2027. Following years of interactive sets built around electronic Mario, Luigi and Peach figures, the next generation of LEGO Super Mario will put traditional LEGO minifigures at the centre of the experience.
Officially revealed on 26 August 2026, the new wave introduces eight sets arriving on 1 January 2027, spanning everything from a small Mario pipe build to an impressive Bowser’s Castle.
A New Direction for LEGO Super Mario
Since its launch in 2020, LEGO Super Mario has stood apart from most LEGO themes through its use of interactive electronic figures. Mario, Luigi and Peach could interact with specially designed bricks, collect coins and complete challenges.
The 2027 range represents a significant change. LEGO describes it as a refresh of the Super Mario theme, now centred on creative LEGO minifigure roleplay. For the first time in the theme’s six-year history, characters including Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi and Bowser Jr. will appear as traditional LEGO minifigures.
This could potentially open LEGO Super Mario up to an entirely different audience. Rather than requiring the interactive figures and electronic components, these sets can be enjoyed much more like conventional LEGO playsets.

A New Era for LEGO Super Mario?
The 2027 wave could represent the most significant change to LEGO Super Mario since the theme launched.
The original concept was revolutionary in its own way, combining physical LEGO construction with digital gameplay. The new approach appears to move back toward something much more familiar to traditional LEGO fans: build it, play with it, take it apart and create your own story.
