BUGS Member Spotlight: NickGreat’s Incredible LEGO M.A.S.K. Collection
For most LEGO builders, recreating a single vehicle from a favourite childhood theme would be an impressive achievement. For Nicholas Sim, better known online as “NickGreat”, it became a mission to recreate an entire fleet.
A lifelong fan of the classic 1980s M.A.S.K. (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand) cartoon and toy line, Nicholas began designing LEGO versions of the iconic transforming vehicles in 2022. Since then, he has steadily expanded his collection, faithfully recreating the vehicles that appeared in the original animated series. His work has even been featured within the M.A.S.K. fan community, where his transforming vehicles and custom minifigures have earned praise from fellow fans.
His latest creation is Meteor, one of the racing-themed vehicles from the M.A.S.K. universe. With its completion, Nicholas is now just one vehicle away from finishing his ambitious project.
That final vehicle? Volcano.
Ironically, the last vehicle is proving to be the most challenging. Nicholas typically takes about a week to design a new MOC, carefully balancing accuracy, play features, and transformation mechanisms. However, Volcano has stubbornly resisted his efforts.
According to Nicholas, he still hasn’t figured out how to implement the vehicle’s transformation the way he envisions it. Rather than rushing out a compromise, he’s choosing to wait until he can find a solution that meets his expectations. As a result, fans may have to be patient before Volcano finally joins the rest of the fleet.
One thing Nicholas has been consistent about throughout the project is his focus on the original cartoon era of M.A.S.K. While the toy line later expanded into the Split Seconds series, he has deliberately chosen not to build vehicles from that range. His goal has always been to recreate the vehicles that captured the imagination of children watching the original animated adventures of Matt Trakker and Miles Mayhem.
The good news? Nicholas already has the Volcano minifigure ready and waiting. The driver has arrived before the vehicle, which means the final piece of the puzzle is already in place.
With Meteor completed and Volcano standing as the final hurdle, M.A.S.K. fans are eagerly awaiting the day NickGreat unveils the last vehicle and completes what has become one of the most comprehensive LEGO tributes to the classic cartoon series. When that day comes, it won’t just mark the completion of a collection—it will be the culmination of a journey that began more than three years ago, driven by nostalgia, creativity, and a passion for one of the most beloved action franchises of the 1980s.
