The BUGS Journey
Since being officially recognised as a Recognized LEGO User Group (RLUG) in 2014, Bricks User Group Singapore (BUGS) has grown into one of Singapore’s most active and passionate LEGO communities. What began as a small group of Adult Fans of LEGO (AFOLs) sharing a common hobby has evolved into a vibrant community dedicated to inspiring creativity, building friendships, and bringing the joy of LEGO to people of all ages.
Over the years, BUGS members have poured countless hours into organising, participating in, and supporting a wide variety of LEGO events across Singapore. Many of these events have become annual highlights that both our members and the public look forward to every year.
Community Branding and Representation
BUGS members have represented the community through community-branded apparel, including black and red BUGS T-shirts featuring the BUGS logo and community identity, coordinated participation at public events, community logos, online branding, and exhibition signage. These visual identifiers help visitors, event partners, parents, and prospective members easily recognise BUGS members during exhibitions, community activities, and public engagements. Signature Events and Exhibitions
From our signature ENBLOCK exhibitions that showcase incredible MOCs built by our talented members, to the ever-popular Whacky Train Grand Prix, we’ve always believed that LEGO is best enjoyed when shared with others. Every display, workshop, and activity is made possible by members who willingly volunteer their evenings, weekends, and countless hours behind the scenes to plan, build, transport, and set up these experiences for the community.
Community Building through Collaboration
One of our most cherished traditions is the annual Lunar New Year Giant Zodiac Mascot Build, where BUGS members gather on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day to construct a life-sized LEGO zodiac mascot, layer by layer. These builds are often challenging, fragile, and time-consuming, but they have become a symbol of teamwork, dedication, and the friendships that have grown within BUGS over the years.
Our members have also proudly taken part in ambitious projects such as Singapore’s Tallest Modular Building Display, where individual creations were combined into one towering cityscape, showcasing not only the creativity of our builders but also what can be achieved when a community works together.
More recently, BUGS members participated in the Singapore Shophouse Experience, contributing their own unique LEGO creations (MOCs) to the exhibition. Together, these individual builds demonstrated the incredible creativity and diversity of our members, while giving visitors an opportunity to appreciate the imagination and craftsmanship behind every model.
Regular Gatherings and Member connections
Beyond exhibitions, BUGS continues to foster the local LEGO community through regular gatherings such as the bi-monthly AFOL Nights at BricksWorld. These casual meetups provide members with an opportunity to exchange ideas, showcase new creations, make new friends, and simply enjoy spending time with fellow LEGO enthusiasts. It’s these moments of connection that make BUGS more than just a club—they make it a family.
Behind Every Event
While visitors often see the finished displays, what they don’t always see are the countless hours of planning, designing, building, testing, transporting, setting up, and packing away after every event. Behind every LEGO creation is a dedicated team of volunteers who give their time simply because they love the hobby and want to share it with others.
The People Behind BUGS
As you browse through the photos from the past decade, you’ll notice many familiar faces appearing again and again. These are the BUGS members who have dedicated their time, energy, and creativity to making each event possible. Whether they’re carefully placing the final bricks on a giant mascot, setting up a massive exhibition, sharing building techniques with visitors, or simply chatting with curious members of the public about LEGO, their passion shines through in every photograph. Every smile, every display, and every interaction reflects the countless hours of dedication that have gone into making BUGS what it is today.
Looking Ahead
Looking back, we’re incredibly proud of what BUGS has achieved since becoming an official RLUG in 2014. But perhaps our greatest achievement isn’t measured by the number of events we’ve organised or the size of our LEGO displays. It’s the friendships we’ve built, the smiles we’ve created, and the community we’ve helped grow through our shared love of LEGO.
