Welcoming the Year of the Snake with Another Giant Mascot Build! 🐍🎉
As has become a cherished BUGs tradition, a dedicated team of builders gathered on New Year’s Eve to construct our annual giant zodiac mascot to welcome the Lunar New Year. This year, the spotlight was on the Year of the Snake, and it proved to be one of the most challenging mascots we’ve tackled yet!
Unlike permanent display models, our giant mascots are not glued together. Every year, they must be carefully assembled layer by layer, requiring patience, precision, and plenty of teamwork. The snake presented a unique challenge due to its long, winding body and curved shape. Its length made the structure particularly fragile, with each section needing careful support as the build gradually took shape.
The team for this year’s build consisted of Andrew Quek, Ong San San, Chris Lim and his two boys, Eugene Tan, Khor Chin Seong, Neo Chun Guan, and Seow Jingru. Together, they spent approximately two to three hours bringing the giant snake to life.
By the time the final bricks were placed, midnight had long passed and we were already well into the first day of the new year. Despite the late hour and the challenges along the way, spirits remained high throughout the build. The sense of accomplishment was well worth the effort as the completed snake stood proudly ready to welcome the Year of the Snake.
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed their time, energy, and building skills to keep this annual BUGs tradition alive. Here’s wishing everyone a prosperous, healthy, and joyful Year of the Snake!
